With everything happening in the world right now—and the constant swirl of headlines—it can feel overwhelming to keep track of what’s true and what it all means. We know there’s been a lot of news lately about federal grant funding for nonprofits, and with so much buzz out there, it’s easy for things to feel confusing.
That’s why I wanted to personally reach out and provide clarity on how this affects us here at Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas.
Many people don’t realize that we do not receive any federal funding. Thanks to your generosity, our programs are not directly impacted by these changes. We continue to serve thousands of people each year across our 31-county service area, providing essential services like food boxes, diapers, housing and utility assistance, mental health counseling, pregnancy support, and more—without interruption.
You may have seen statements from Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) regarding federal funding across the national network. But national news doesn’t always reflect what’s happening here in Northern Kansas. There are 168 independent diocesan Catholic Charities agencies in the U.S., each serving its own community based on local needs. While CCUSA provides support and resources, it doesn’t offer direct services or oversee our day-to-day operations.
Here at Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas, our work is guided by Bishop Vincke and a local Board of Directors made up of individuals from communities throughout our diocese. Their leadership ensures our programs meet the specific needs of the people we serve, reflecting the values of families and communities right here at home.
We are blessed with a strong, supportive community. Your generosity allows us to continue this important work, ensuring that help is always available for those who need it most.
If you have any questions about what you’re seeing in the news or how it relates to our work, please feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to provide clarity.
Thank you for being part of this mission. If you’d like to support our work further, you can donate here—every gift helps us continue serving families in need throughout Northern Kansas.
With gratitude,
Megan Robl
