Bertha and Yunior's Story

Bertha and Yunior, proud parents of six children, work tirelessly to create a stable and loving home. Life hasn’t been easy, but their resilience and hope have carried them through tough times. When a friend saw them struggling to pay bills and meet their children’s needs, she introduced them to Catholic Charities—a connection that changed everything. 


From their first visit, Bertha and Yunior felt kindness and support. “You were there when we didn’t know what to do,” Bertha said. “You helped us with diapers, food, hygiene, and clothing. Let’s just say, you’ve helped us with everything! It’s been a blessing.” 

Melissa Herrera, Emergency Assistance Coordinator, went beyond the basics to truly understand their needs. She connected them to other local resources like weekly food assistance programs and even helped Bertha’s oldest son learn to use his phone to fill out applications—a skill that’s helped the family access even more support. 

“Thank God we found you,” Bertha shared, reflecting on Melissa’s compassion and extra care. “You’re like the best friend we can trust.” 

Yunior echoed her gratitude. “We’ve never had this kind of support before. We don’t feel alone anymore. It feels like we have a family here— someone we can count on.”
